Eagles Sign Former Local Catholic School Player

Kyle Eckel to fill void at fullback

Episcopal Academy alumnus Kyle Eckel is returning to the Philadelphia area as a member of the Eagles.

Eckel will fill the void left at fullback after the Eagles cut Tony Hunt.

He spent all of 2007 with the New England Patriots playing in 12 regular season games and two post season contests scoring two touchdowns.

Eagles writer Dave Spadaro describes Eckel as a "mucker" who understands how to play the no-glory fullback position.

A Naval Academy graduate, Eckel was originally drafted by the Miami Dolphins in 2005 but spent parts of his first two seasons on the NFL military/reserve list.

To make room for Eckel on the 53-man roster the Eagles released safety J.R. Reid.
