Camp Confidential: Meet Eagles' “Sunshine”

Riley Cooper's long locks earn him a nickname

Each day of Eagles training camp NBCPhiladelphia.com will focus on different Bird trying to soar at Lehigh.

An Eagles wideout is raising eyebrows at training camp and it’s not just for his catches on the practice field.

Eagles rookie wide receiver Riley Cooper stands out in a crowd -- heck it’s hard to miss a 6-foot-3, 222-pounder with long flowing locks.

Just days into camp his surfer-dude hairdo had already earned a nickname from his new teammates.

"They all call me 'Sunshine,'" he joked.

The reference is to a character in the movie Remember the Titans. The Eagles fifth-round draft pick out of Florida though isn’t going to let some teammates giving him a hard time lead him to change a thing.

"I'm not cutting it," Cooper said with a smile.

Maybe the hair is where Cooper gets his power -- or maybe it's his size.

"I'm a little different type of receiver than all those other boys -- they’re a little bit smaller," he told reporters. "I'm kinda big, physical."

Cooper hopes that physicality can land him a spot on the Eagles roster. Of course once he gets to Philly he might need a good barber who knows how to trim long hair.
