Eagles, Phillies Among World's Most Valuable Sports Teams

Forbes recently released their updated list of the world's most valuable sports teams, and a few Philadelphia squads made the list.

Real Madrid led the way for the third straight year, with an estimated value of $3.26 billion. They edged out the Dallas Cowboys and New York Yankees for the top spot. Each of those American teams tied for second at $3.2 billion.

The Eagles were the top-ranked team out of Philly, landing 19th with a valuation of $1.75 billion. This fell just behind the New York Jets and Chicago Cubs.

While Phillies fans may not have a perennial World Series contender to root for at the moment, the Phils did rank within the top 50, squeaking in at No. 42 with a $1.25 billion worth.

Overall, the top 50 listing includes 22 MLB and NBA franchises, which is more than double the total from the previous year, where football teams dominated.

Forbes has valued teams across the globe since 1998, and they regularly evaluate teams in all four major pro sports in the U.S., in addition to international soccer, Formula 1 racing, and Nascar.
