Eagles Extend Kolb Another Year

QB signs contract extension through 2011 season

The Eagles committed to Kevin Kolb being their quarterback when they shipped Donovan McNabb to Washington earlier this month and on Thursday they committed to Kolb beyond just this season.

Kolb and the Eagles agreed to a one-year contact extension that will keep the QB in Philly through the 2011 season.

"I want to be here long term and I think the Eagles want me here long term," Kolb said.

The deal guarantees about $12.26 million mostly in a signing bonus, according to Scout.com’s Adam Caplan.

The deal was only for one year because of current collective bargaining rules in place that prevent teams from increasing a player's salary by more than 30 percent, reported the Daily News' Eagletarian.

Kolb made about $1.3 million last season so he wouldn't be able to make even $2 this season under the current CBA.

"We’re happy to have Kevin under contract for the next two seasons," said head coach Andy Reid. "When given the chance, Kevin has proven to have good command of this offense and we’re looking forward to having him operate as the number one quarterback for the Philadelphia Eagles."

Kolb, 25, started two games last season for the injured McNabb. He set an NFL record by becoming the first QB ever to throw for 300-plus yards in his first two starts.
