Eagles GM to Fly the Coop: ESPN

Eagles General Manager Tom Heckert could be leaving town as soon as Monday if the Eagles lose.

The Cleveland Browns were expected to name Heckert as their new GM, sources told ESPN.com’s Adam Schefter.

Heckert has spent eight seasons in the Eagles’ front office. Because of Head Coach Andy Reid’s influence on the Eagles roster, Heckert might not be a household name for Birds fans even though he has served as the team’s GM for the past four of those seasons.

The Browns interviewed Heckert on Wednesday and Browns president Mike Holmgren also interviewed Seattle pro personnel director Will Lewis for the GM vacancy. But, Heckert emerged as the favorite for the job, according to ESPN.

Heckert, whose father, Tom, worked as a scout for the Browns in the 1980s, could be hired once the Eagles complete their season. They play the Dallas Cowboys in the NFC playoffs on Saturday. Heckert was reportedly going to interview for Seattle's GM job this week but backed out.
