Dick's Won't Mess With Vick's Jersey–for Now

There is one sporting goods supplier where you won’t find any Michael Vick jerseys for sale -- Dick’s Sporting Goods.

The only No. 7 Eagles jersey you might find at a Dick’s store is a throwback Ron Jaworski jersey, reported CNBC’s Darren Rovell.

Rovell was one of the first reporters to get confirmation from Dick’s that they won’t carry Vick’s jersey.

"We are simply evaluating the reaction of Eagles fans before we commit to buy it to sell in our stores," Dick's chief marketing officer Jeff Hennion told NBC Philadelphia. "Right now, we're not sure how much demand there really is. If there's demand for it, we'll sell it."

The sporting goods giant has more than 400 stores around the country so the decision doesn’t seem Philly-centric.

Dick’s spokesperson claimed to be waiting to see how much demand there is for the jersey. The move would make sense considering that Vick is an ex-felon who admitted his role in heinous crimes against dogs and is really only currently a backup QB.

But the factors that work against Vick may also be drawing an allure from some fans. Vick's jersey is a top seller at some online sites like NFL.com

Maybe something else could be playing a role in Dick’s decision.

Dick’s could be taking the moral high ground by not selling Vick jerseys. It’s worth noting -- they were among the first retailers to pull Vick’s Falcons jerseys after the quarterback’s involvement in dogfighting became known back in 2007, Rovell reported at the time.

The company wouldn't comment on whether morality played a role in their decision.
