New Jersey's Carli Lloyd Put US Women's National Team on Brink of World Cup Victory

South Jersey soccer star Carli Lloyd cemented her place U.S. soccer lore Tuesday night with an amazing one-goal, one-assist performance that led the No. 2-ranked U.S. Women’s National Team to a 2-0 win over top-ranked Germany in the Women’s World Cup semi-finals.

The Delran, New Jersey native scored on a penalty kick in the 69th minute to put America ahead then made an amazing move before passing to Kelley O'Hara in the 85th minute to ice the victory. Lloyd said she zeroed in on the winning kick.

"That's exactly what I did, shut out everything around me and focused on what I needed to do," she said.

The goal gave Lloyd goals in three-straight games and set up America to take on the winner of Wednesday night's match in Edmonton between defending champion Japan, ranked No. 4, and sixth-ranked England.

Lloyd's career is defined by big moments. Lloyd, who turns 33 later this month, already has two gold medals under her belt and scored the game-winner against China in the quarterfinals but there is one thing missing.

"We didn't come here just to make the final," Lloyd said. "We came here to win it, so we're going to go after it."
