Can the Flyers Make History Tonight?

Flyers vs. Bruins, tonight at 7 p.m.

It all comes down to tonight -- how many times has that been said this season?

After earning a playoff spot on the very last day of the season via a shootout win over the New York Rangers and proceeding to dispose of the New Jersey Devils in five games, the Philadelphia Flyers are on the verge of making history -- if they can pull out a win tonight against Boston.

Either the Flyers seize their destiny and complete their epic comeback from a three-game deficit against the Boston Bruins, or they hang up their skates for the season.

The first option sounds much more appealing, doesn’t it?

Emotions will run high tonight at the T.D. Bank Center in Boston when the puck drops at 7 p.m.

Both the Bruins and the Flyers will surely skate with an extra sense of desperation that only a playoff hockey elimination game can deliver.

But despite being outplayed and losing three games in a row, don’t expect the Boston Bruins to roll over and die.

“Now we're in the same boat," said Bruins’ forward Milan Lucic on Flyers.nhl.com. "Both teams' backs are against the wall, and it's one game win all. Everyone has to bring their ultimate best, and that's what we expect from our group going in. We're going to try to build off the ending we had in (Game 6)."

One key to the game will be the start and you can expect both teams to come out flying. The first goal in game seven will be huge.

The Flyers will also need Michael Leighton to be on top of his game. Leighton made 30 saves in game six, and our stifling defense also blocked 30 shots.

Another key to this monumental comeback is the Flyers’ outlook of taking it one game at a time.

"The only thing a Game 7 win would mean is that we'd move on," Flyers’ captain Mike Richards said on their Website. "We're not worried about any of the other stuff. We haven't really done much right now. We've tied up the series, we've fought back, and we still have one game to complete it. They're going to come hard, we have to be ready for Friday night."

There you have it  -- just another game, right? Not really.

Tune in Friday night at 7 p.m., or better yet, head over to the Wachovia Center for the Game 7 Viewing Party. Parking and admission are free, and the atmosphere will be the closest you can get to being at the game.
