Bye, Bye Birdie: Gil's Twitter Account Closes

Is Arenas feeling the heat?

It appears the tweeting days of Gilbert Arenas are over.

The suspended Wizards star's Twitter account was closed sometime Thursday night. The final count: 155 posts, according to TruthAboutIt.net, ranging from entertaining to bizarre to newsworthy (imagine that!).

Agent Zero tried using Twitter to explain away his current gun problems:

"@DhatKidSoFlashy no im not going to jail i didnt do what they keep writing but stay away from guns..i was wrong for puttn them in my locker"

And he also tried to explain away the Getty image of his finger guns in Philadelphia:

"I know everybody seen the pre game pics..my teammate thought to break the tention we should do that..but this is gettn way to much. I wanna say sorry if I p***ed any body off by us havin fun ... I’m sorry for anything u need to blame for for right now.."

There's no word as to why the Twitter account was closed -- whether it was his own doing or on the advice of his lawyers or the league. But some media outlets, like ABC News, believe his rants on Twitter played a big part on his league suspension.

On Monday, Arenas tweeted an apology for the offensive photo. But the stream of Twitter messages, ramblings and rants may have shined a self-inflicted spotlight on the gifted player that was too much for Stern to ignore. Arenas has been known for his erratic behavior over the years.

Without his constant tweets, how will friends and fans know what Gil's up to? May we suggest Foursquare?
