Bonds Says He Helped Howard's Swing

Phillies home run prince Ryan Howard is blasting his way towards another amazing season -- this time supposedly with the help of a king.

At the request of Howard, home run king Barry Bonds worked with the Phillies slugger in Florida this winter, said the San Francisco Chronicle.

The focus -- Howard’s swing.

“I coached him a little bit and he's doing very, very well and hasn't said one thing about me yet,” Bonds said with a chuckle.

Bonds, who holds the single-season (73) and career (762) home run records last played in 2007 and could be looking to get into coaching just like Mark McGwire recently did.

Phillies fans might not have heard about Bonds helping out Howard until Sunday but that didn't seem to bother Barry.

“I love him and I'm glad he's doing well,'' Bonds said about Howard.

Seems like Bonds' swing advice could have helped the Phillies first baseman.

Howard normally starts his season slowly hitting the fewest homers (20), fewest RBI (62) and slugging his lowest percentage (.466) in April. But, this season he has already blasted three homers, 10 RBI and has a .857 slugging percentage through six games.
