Bode Miller Tweaks Knee, Will Skip Final Alpine Event

Bode Miller tweaked his surgically repaired left knee during the first run of Wednesday's Olympic giant slalom and will not enter Saturday's slalom, the final Alpine event of the Sochi Games.

The American ski star "says he will not race in this week's #slalom but will race the rest of the World Cup Season," the U.S. Ski Team confirmed on Twitter.

Miller was 26th in the opening giant slalom leg Wednesday, finishing in 1 minute, 23.64 seconds, more than 2½ seconds slower than Ted Ligety, who went on to win the gold medal.

Miller owns a U.S.-record six Olympic Alpine medals, including a bronze in the super-G last weekend that made him, at 36, the oldest ski racer to win a Winter Games medal. He said Wednesday that his knee bothered him after that race, and it's been swollen during these Olympics.

He missed all of last season while coming back from a knee operation.
