America's Most Ever Tweeted: Tebow's TD

Denver Broncos QB Tim Tebow's overtime win produced a record amount of tweets.

Someone's watching him from on high.

Twitter, that is.

Denver Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow -- who's become an Internet meme for his tendency to fall to his knees and pray without warning during football games produced the most-tweeted-about sporting event in Twitter history, the San Francisco-based company announced Monday.

Tebow threw for a career-high 316 yards and two touchdowns and ran for a third score in his playoff debut, in which the underdog Broncos knocked off the defending AFC champion Pittsburgh Steelers. After he completed an 80-yard game-winning touchdown pass on the first play of overtime on Sunday, he also produced 9,420 tweets per second, according to the San Mercury News.

That's more tweets than the 8,868 tweets Beyonce inspired when she announced her pregnancy on MTV, but less than the 25,088 tweets per second recorded when the Japanese animated movie "Castle in the Sky" screened on television, the newspaper reported.

The previous record for sports tweets occurred during the 2011 FIFA Women's World Cup.

Here's the top five Twitter per-second moments:

1) Castle in the Sky airs in Japan (anime movie)

2) Tim Tebow's OT touchdown

3) Beyonce's MTV baby announcement

4) Execution of Troy Davis in Georgia

5) FIFA Womena's World Cup
