There's a new online job search platform designed to help some Delaware residents find jobs and local employers connect with those job seekers.
It's called Wilmington.TweetMyJobs.com.
"What we know for certain today is that there are 2,028 Wilmington residents that are currently unemployed," said Wilmington City Council Member Darius Brown, D-3rd Dist.
On Monday, Brown joined city officials and businesses leaders excited to use the platform. Details about the launch were revealed at Franklin Fibre-Lamitex Corporation, an industrial plastics manufacturer in Wilmington that has already signed on to post its job openings.
"As one of the few manufacturing companies still located in the city limits, I am excited to see the city being progressive and aligning itself with new and innovative ways to create jobs," said James Vachris of Franklin Fibre-Lamitex Corp.
According to Brown, what's exciting about the web-based platform is its immediate connection to other social networks. For an example, job seekers can receive matched job alerts instantly and directly through Facebook, Twitter or Instagram. Other options include email or via mobile device.

The platform will ultimately help unemployed city residents find jobs that suit their skills by going online or downloading the mobile app.
"Citizens have greatly increased opportunities to find the job of their dreams from companies such as Astra Zeneca, Starbucks, AT&T and now Franklin Fibre," said Jae Sung of TweetMyJobs.com
Sung expressed that another key benefit is that local employers now have access to a leading social and mobile recruiting platform that usually only Fortune 1000 can afford. As a result companies can reach qualified candidates faster and it's at no charge thanks to those who support Brown's proposal for the project. Wilmington Mayor Dennis Williams, Capital One, City Council President Theo Gregory and the law firm of Richards, Layton and Finger all embraced the concept.
In addition to connecting people with jobs, the website will also track the number of citizens pursuing job opportunities, the type of positions being sought, and measure the number of jobs companies post over time. That information will provide government with local insights to further foster job growth among the citizens of Wilmington.
"The good news is what we also know today as we launch Wilmington.TweetMyJobs.com is that there are 3,000 plus jobs currently available in the City of Wilmington and Metropolitan Wilmington for those 2,028 job seekers," Brown said
