What Voters Need to Know

Pa. Voter Information

  • Polling hours: 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday. All those in line at 8 p.m. will be able to vote.
  • Before entering the voting booth: Review sample ballots sent by mail and available online and at the polls. New voters are encouraged to view voting machine demonstration videos at www.VotesPA.com
  • Identification: First-time voters in a precinct must show a driver's license or other approved form of identification.
  • What not to wear: Contact your county board of elections to see if campaign-related clothing and accessories are allowed at polls.
  • Awaiting trial or in jail for a misdemeanor: You cannot vote while serving time for a felony; however, felons released on parole or who have served their sentence are eligible to register and vote.
  • If voting machines fail: Voters will be offered emergency paper ballots if 50 percent or more of voting machines at a poll do not work.
  • If a voter's name isn't listed: A registered voter whose name isn't in the poll book, or who moved within the county without informing the county election office, may vote with a provisional paper ballot.

N.J. Voter Information

  • Polling hours: 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday. Lines will likely be shortest between 10 and 3. Those in line at 8 p.m. will be able to vote.
  • Before entering the voting booth: Review sample ballots sent by mail and available online and at the polls. New voters are encouraged to view an instruction video at www.njelections.org.
  • What not to wear: State law forbids anyone to wear campaign-related buttons or clothes, including hats, at a poll. Individuals will be asked to remove or cover the item; a garment may be turned inside-out.
  • If a voting machine fails: Paper ballots may be used when, for any reason, a voting machine does not work. Poll workers may authorize use of paper ballots if a district's single machine is in use for extended time by a disabled voter who requires audio aid.
  • If a voter's name isn't listed: A registered voter whose name isn't in the poll book, or who moved within the county without informing his or her county election office, may cast a provisional paper ballot.
  • To vote by absentee ballot: Registered voters don't have to give a reason for an absentee ballot. File a ballot application with the county clerk by 3 p.m. Monday. Return the ballot to county election headquarters by 8 p.m. Tuesday. Go to www.njelections.org for details.

De. Voter Information:

  • Polling hours: 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday. Voters in line at a polling place at 8 p.m. on Election Day shall be permitted to vote. Anyone who arrives after 8 p.m. shall not be permitted to vote. Voters who are not permitted to vote at a Polling Place on Election Day may appeal that decision to Superior Court on Election Day.
  • Before entering the voting booth: View tutorial on how to use voting machines.. Read all election materials on Candidates and issues prior to voting. Bring ID to the polls. This can be a photo Id, utility bill, paycheck or any other government document with your name and address on it.
  • What not to wear: Election officials are reminding Delaware voters that it is against the law to wear campaign T-shirts, buttons, hats, literature or slogans inside the polling station or within 50 feet of the door where the station is located.
  • Voting machine problems: If you think there is a problem with your voting machine, stop and ask for assistance immediately. Delaware electronic voting machines are not "on-line" so there is no risk of anyone being able to see or change your vote electronically.
  • Absentee voting: Nov. 3rd at Noon is the last day to vote by absentee ballot at the Department of elections for New Castle County. Nov 4th at 8 p.m. is the deadline to return absentee ballots to the Department of Elections.
