Former Congressman From Pennsylvania Seeks to Grab Senate Seat for 2016

Former Pennsylvania congressman Joe Sestak is kicking off his campaign to capture the U.S. Senate seat occupied by Republican Pat Toomey.

Sestak plans to announce his candidacy for the 2016 election on Wednesday in Philadelphia.

The event at Independence Hall sets up a potential rematch with Toomey, who narrowly beat Sestak for the job in 2010.

Sestak, a 63-year-old Democrat, is a retired Navy vice admiral from suburban Philadelphia. He was elected twice to the U.S. House of Representatives before pursuing the Senate post.

Toomey is a former investment banker from the Lehigh Valley who served three terms in the House. He then headed the free-market advocacy group Club for Growth in Washington before being elected to the Senate.
