Sen. Casey Is Tweeting! (Toomey, Too)

Pa. Senators on a growing list of lawmakers embracing social media

Pa. Sen. Bob Casey (D) has launched a new Twitter account.

“Today’s employment report shows that the PA economy continues to recover. Unemployment dropped to 7.5 percent,” was the first tweet sent from the Senator’s office on Thursday.

Media outlets are very familiar with the string of updates pouring out of Casey’s press office on a daily (hourly?) basis.

Now his staff has an added option for following his every move and policy position. As of Monday, Casey had over 350 followers. Wannabe Casey tweeps can follow @SenBobCasey.

The same access comes from the office of Sen. Pat Toomey (R). Toomey tweeted as a candidate for his current job and the first message after he was sworn into office appears to have been posted on Jan. 10.

“If we make the right decisions now, the 21st century can be another great American century, Toomey tweeted on Wednesday.

@SenToomey had over 3,440 followers as of Monday.

Casey and Toomey are among dozens of members of Congress with Twitter accounts. The Hill newspaper maintains an active list of key Twitters and a “Live Tweetstream” for political junkies.
