NJ Democratic Congressional candidate Shelley Adler raised more cash in the second quarter than Jon Runyan, but the incumbent Republican has more than twice as much in his campaign coffers.
The Adler campaign reported raising $322,081 in the fundraising quarter ending June 30th, in her challenge to win the Third District seat once held by her late husband, John Adler. Runyan raised $300,062 for the second straight quarter, according to a release from his campaign.
“Shelley Adler has raised more resources in each of the first two quarters this year than the incumbent has in any previous quarter because people are responding to her call for anew direction in Washington,” said Adler Strategic Adviser Michael Muller.
The latest figures show Adler’s cash-on-hand report of $492,846 is just over half of the $902,620 that the first term congressman has to spend in the final months of his 2012 reelection campaign.
“We have nearly twice as much money in the bank this year than we had at this point in 2010,” said Runyan Campaign Manager Kristin Antonello. That year, Runyan ran against and defeated John Adler, who died in April 2011.
Both candidates have been pulling in endorsements, including some from local labor groups. Neither candidate was opposed in the NJ primary election.
The general election is Nov. 6.
