Romney Visits Defunct Allentown Factory

2012 Republican presidential contender's visit schedule to coincided with President's trip

Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney says President Barack Obama is trying to fix the economy, but doesn't understand how it works.

The former Massachusetts governor is visiting Pennsylvania and taking Obama to task for saying if he hadn't turned the economy around during his first years in office, he would face becoming a one-term president.

Romney spoke to reporters Thursday outside an Allentown factory Obama visited in December 2009 to promote his economic stimulus package. The factory closed the next month.

Romney says the president isn't spending enough time and energy putting Americans back to work.

Allentown Mayor Ed Pawlowski urged Romney not to use the economic misfortune of workers for his own political gain.

"Mitt Romney should not be criticizing our community and its economy. He should be highlighting the strong economic turnaround in Allentown and the numerous developments happening in the city," Pawlowski said.

President Obama is also in Pennsylvania Thursday for a pair of fundraisers.
