Philly Wants to Connect With You

Mayor Nutter launches new social media civic engagement website

Philadelphia has a new interactive social media tool that’s designed to allow residents to have more say about what’s going on in the city.

Mayor Michael Nutter (D-Philadelphia) launched the “Change By Us Philly” website on Monday.

Got a big idea that you think Mayor Nutter or other city officials should consider? That’s the idea behind the new program.

“Our Administration wants to know what is important to its citizens and actively works to make the changes Philadelphians want and need,” said Mayor Nutter.

Mayor Nutter is waiting for you to connect and so are Deputy Mayor for Environmental & Community Resources, Mike DiBerardinis, Philadelphia Police Commissioner Charles Ramsey and Catherine Wolfgang of the Mayor’s Office of Civic Engagement and Volunteer Service.

According to the site: “Change by Us Philly helps you share ideas, start projects, connect with resources, and make your community better.” You can opt to ‘join a project’ that’s in progress or 'start your own project.’

The new civic engagement platform will be administered by the Mayor's Office of Communication.

In October, Philadelphia was named one of the nation's top citizen-engaged communities by the Public Technology Institute (PTI).

In September, Mayor Nutter took questions from viewers in a multi-media town hall event on NBC 10, NBC Philadelphia Nonstop and NBCPhiladelphia.com, which was inspired by his extensive use of social media, including Facebook and Twitter.

The "Change By Us" program was first launched in New York and is now expanding to other cities. Funding support is being donated by the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, the Rockefeller Foundation and the Case Foundation.
