Parking Is Driving Them Mad in Wilmington

Online campaign launched to make sense of confusing regulations

Wilmington residents and business people have a new place to vent about the problems they have with parking in the city.

An online campaign against the parking system is gaining support on wilmingtonparking.blogspot.com.

Creator Ken Grant isn't just interested in complaining about parking problems, he’s also asking for constructive input to pass onto city officials to help improve the system.

He’s even got a meeting set up on Jan .13 with a group of officials, to pass on some of those complaints and ideas.

Some of the information on the blog are video lampoons of what the contributors say are some of the most confusing aspects of the current parking regulations.

In one, a driver stops a car in the middle of the street, blocking traffic, to comply with the requirement to “immediately” deposit money in the meter, as another driver waits, impatiently for him to feed the meter and then park.

There’s another animated spoof about unpaid parking tickets and late fines, including a threat to place a “boot” on the offender’s car for not paying sooner.

The blog campaign has reached the Mayor’s office, according to the News Journal.

The mayor’s chief of staff, William Montgomery, told the paper that transportation officials are reviewing parking signs in the downtown district and preparing a new fact sheet on parking regulations to post online.
