Pa., N.Y. Guvs Wager Travel Packages on Series

Finally some politicians made a World Series bet with some meat (and travel) to it.

New York Gov. David Paterson and Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell laid down their bets on the Fall Classic. At stake -- weekend getaways for a fan of the other team including dinner at a gourmet restaurant.

If Phillies win, a lucky fan would get a night on the town in Manhattan. If the Yankees win, a state resident and guest would get a VIP weekend in the City of Brotherly Love.

The bet between the Guvs aimed to promote tourism in the states. It replaced the familiar wager between chief executives that often involves gourmet meals or well-known state delicacies.

"The state with the losing team will offer a weekend vacation to a resident of the state with the winning team," according to a Paterson press release. "Accommodations, meals and tickets for the vacation package will be donated by the respective companies, organizations and venues hosting the trip. The losing city will host the all-expenses paid weekend getaway…”

What posh places will the fans get to visit?

"If the Yankees win, a New Yorker and guest will enjoy the luxury accommodations at the Park Hyatt at the Bellevue, be treated to dinner at the Prime Rib, VIP access at a cultural event, as well as brunch at Parc in the inviting Rittenhouse Square during an all-access VIP weekend,” said Paterson.

Rendell picked the Phillies to win in six games but he was prepared just in case the Phightins lose.

"In the unlikely event that that Yankees win, that couple will be forced to have lunch with me," said Rendell to the Daily News. "It won't be as bad as usual because I'm eating a lot less these days."

β€œIf the Phillies win, a Pennsylvania resident and guest will stay at the Sheraton New York Hotel & Towers and will dine at the award-winning 21 Club in midtown Manhattan.”

Amtrak will provide transportation between Philadelphia and New York anyway the Series shakes out

Pa. Phillies fans (sorry South Jersey and Delaware residents -- this contest is for Keystone Staters only) can enter the contest once the Phillies win, said Rendell’s press office.

As for New Yorkers, they can enter a lottery at the "I Love New York" Web site if the Yankees win.
