Pa. Gov. Invited to White House Dinner

Did he fly or ride in one of his new SUV's to DC?

Pa. voters never promised him a rose garden, but a special White House invitation landed Gov. Tom Corbett in the thick of it.

The guest list for Tuesday’s State Dinner at the White House included Gov. Corbett. He is among the 220 guests invited to dine with politicians and business leaders. Corbett’s wife was not on the guest list.

Former New Jersey Gov. Jon Corzine and his wife Sharon were also invited to the grand soiree.

Corbett was in the hot seat on Monday about the state’s purchase of four new sport-utility vehicles used to drive him, the lieutenant governor and their wives. Corbett says he didn’t ask for the new wheels. State police officials said the purchase was based on providing safe transportation.

The dinner, in the Rose Garden, was being held in honor of honor German Chancellor Angela Merkel. President Obama was set to award Merkel the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the highest civilian award in the U.S. It recognizes contributions to the security of the U.S., world peace or other meritorious service.

The White House web site offered a peek inside the kitchen where the menu was being prepared using local ingredients, including vegetables and herbs from the White House Kitchen Garden.

Here’s what was on the menu for Corbett and the Corzines:

White House Garden Chopped Salad
Fine Herbs
White House Honey Gastrique
Tuna Tartare with Rye Crisps
Pickled Young Carrots and Mustard Oil
Spring Pea Salad
Shaved Ham and Ginger Snaps
Petite Filet
With Maryland Crab Ravioli
Wild Ramp Puree
Apple Strudel
Golden Raisins and Topfen
An American wine will be paired with each course.

This is the fourth State Dinner hosted by President and First Lady Michelle Obama.
