La Salle Names 1st Female President in 152-Year History

La Salle University named Colleen M. Hanycz as president, the first female president in the school's 152-year history. She's also the first layperson to lead the organization.

Hanycz is currently leading Brescia University College in London, Ontario, Canada. (Her title is principal, the Canadian equivalent of president.)

And so ends La Salle's long search for a new president. Michael J. McGinniss stepped down on May 31, 2014, after serving 15 years. Robert Morris University President Gregory Dell'Omo was set to take the job last winter, but withdrew from consideration in February 2014. A report from the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette said Dell'Omo and the university's board of directors "failed to come to terms" on an agreement. It took another year for La Salle to name Hanycz as president.
