Report: Guardian Adds to Lead in AC Mayor Race

A week after he won at the polls, Republican Don Guardian declared victory -- again -- in the Atlantic City mayoral race.

Atlantic County election officials counted provisional and mail-in ballots on Tuesday.

The Press of Atlantic City reported the Republican added to the 347-vote lead he enjoyed on election night.

Guardian, head of the city's special improvement district, now has a 433-vote lead _ a margin the newspaper reported was greater than the number of ballots still to be counted.

But supporters of Democratic Mayor Lorenzo Langford refused to concede.

The election board will resume counting votes on Wednesday, and has until next Monday to certify the results of the election.

Guardian would be the seaside gambling resort's first Republican mayor in 23 years.
