Lunch Is on Nutter if the Eagles Lose

Philly, Dallas mayors wager for a good cause

The mayors of Philly and Dallas are putting their time and cuisine on the line as the Birds battle the Boys Saturday night.

Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter made the obligatory food wager with Dallas Mayor Tom Leppert with a catch. Instead of feeding just themselves an entire team of volunteers helping build a home for family in need would get to taste victory.

Nutter and Leppert hoped to score a win for Habitat for Humanity despite the outcome of the team.

This is how it will work out. Both Mayors already pledged to volunteer for Habitat in their hometowns. The bet is that the losing mayor would pick up lunch for the winning mayor and his team of volunteers. And, it wouldn't be too surprising if the losing mayor also forked over the bill to feed his own team of Habitat volunteers.

The simple plan even makes winners of the losers since homes would be built in both towns. But, that doesn’t mean that isn’t room for some trash talk.

“After watching the Cowboys play the last few games, I’m very confident we’ll be keeping our delicious barbecue right here in Dallas,” Leppert said.

But, Nutter thinks his Birds will step it up when it counts most.

"Having lulled the Cowboys into a false sense of security, the Eagles will come out and dominate the Cowboys in a game that actually matters," said Nutter. "We will make sure there is an extra seat on the plane back to Philly for barbecue and Dr. Pepper."

Texas barbecue should taste good to those volunteers, but, just in case somehow the Eagles find a way to lose, Nutter would send Philly cheesesteaks and Tastykakes down to Dallas.

“I can taste those Philly cheesecakes already,” said Leppert.

Considering the 24-0 beating the Boys handed the Birds last Sunday Leppert could have a point.
