New Plan Lays Off Camden Cops

The city of Camden plans to lay off nearly half of its police force and a third of its firefighters while also eliminating positions in every city office, according to the Inquirer.

The city’s new plan, approved by the state of New Jersey on Tuesday, features a total of 383 layoffs.

The Camden City Council will discuss the plan on Thursday.

Several unions, which could help reduce the number of layoffs, are currently dealing with contract negotiations.

The layoffs come in the aftermath of Camden being named the second most dangerous city in America according to a national survey.
