New Jersey's Supreme Court has released new guidelines for journalists and the public who use electronic devices in courtrooms and courthouses.
The guidelines announced Thursday require individuals to sign a form agreeing to conditions set by the court to use an electronic device to take notes or receive information or communications. The updated rules also apply to photographers and videographers.
Once signed, the agreement is valid for one year.
The court has the power to restrict or prohibit the use of an electronic device if it is considered to be interfering with a court proceeding.
The guidelines also require that a person must consent to being recorded or photographed in common areas of the courtroom such as hallways.
