Chris Christie Puts Focus to Atlantic City's Finances

Gov. Chris Christie has come to Atlantic City as the city teeters on the brink of financial ruin.

Christie on Wednesday met with Atlantic County Executive Dennis Levinson.

He is using a news conference to again lay out the problems he says Atlantic City is not addressing.

The Republican governor and Democratic Assembly Speaker Vincent Prieto are wrangling about giving the state authority over the city's finances. Prieto objects to legislation approved by the state Senate and backed by Christie, saying it jeopardizes unions' bargaining rights.

Prieto says he hopes to introduce new legislation before Thursday's voting session to establish benchmarks that Atlantic City would have to meet before the state could take over its finances.

Atlantic City's city council is set to vote Wednesday on converting workers to a 28-day pay period.
