NJ Sen. Lautenberg Completes Chemo

U.S. Sen. Frank Lautenberg has completed his chemotherapy treatments for curable lymphoma.

The 86-year-old Senator from the Garden State was diagnosed with the disease after falling at his Cliffside Park home in February after doctors discovered he had a bleeding ulcer.

The diagnosis was optimistic from the start. “We expect a full and complete recovery for Sen. Lautenberg,” said his oncologist James Holland in an issued statement .

After receiving treatment early this year for B-cell lymphoma of the stomach, Lautenberg’s spokesman Caley Gray told the Bergen Record that the Senator, "feels good and his doctors are encouraged by the progress he is making."

Chemo treatments over the past months have resulted in the loss of his weight and hair.

Lautenberg won’t know until later this month whether the chemotherapy worked, but reported feeling “terrific” after speaking with the Record on Wednesday.
