Sotomayor Officially Takes Supreme Seat

Supreme court justice sworn in to audience including Obama, Biden

Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor officially took her seat as the 111th member of the nation's highest court Tuesday, saying her vows to the court in a ceremony held in front of President Obama, Vice President Biden and scores of Sotomayor's relatives and fans.

Sotomayor wore a white collar from Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg to take a traditional walk down the court's white marble steps, posing for photographers and reporters who piled into the Supreme Court to see the first Latina justice's official swearing-in.

President Obama, Vice President Biden, singer Ricky Martin and Sotomayor's family were on hand to watch the ceremony, a tradition for new Supreme Court justices entering the court.

Sotomayor will be in her first hearing Wednesday, hearing arguments about campaign finance law that could chang ethe role of corporations in elections.
