Mayors Group Releases Economic Report in Philly

2012 outlook includes focus on infrastructure investments in major cities

The U.S. Conference of Mayors  released a new economic report Thursday during its meeting in Philadelphia.

The group says this report provides 2011 economic output numbers for the nation's 363 metropolitan areas.

At its news conference Thursday at a downtown hotel, the group released the 2012 economic outlook. The report was prepared by HIS Global Insights and will also address the role of transportation infrastructure in metropolitan economies.

"This report clearly shows that economic recovery is improving slowly, but surely," said U.S. Conference of Mayors President Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter (D). "If Congress would stop the bickering, we could realize even greater growth and prove this report wrong."

Dozens of mayors from around the country were attending the summer leadership meeting.
