Lynne Abraham will pass on the 2012 Pennsylvania Attorney General race.
Longtime campaign adviser Eleanor Dezzi told The Philadelphia Daily News that Abraham likes her law firm work. Abraham went to work at Archer & Greiner, P.C., specializing in civil rights and government affairs, after retiring from the city post in 2010.
Abraham’s “tough cookie” nickname was bestowed on her by the late Philadelphia Mayor Frank Rizzo.
The current Attorney General, Linda Kelly will not run in 2012. She was chosen by Pa. Governor Tom Corbett to replace him in the job he gave up when won the governor’s race in 2010.
Democrats Dan McCaffery, Patrick Murphy and Kathleen Kane have entered the race, along with Republican State Sen. John Rafferty.
McCaffery is a former Philadelphia Assistant D.A. and a 2009 candidate for District Attorney. Murphy is the ex-Congressman from Bucks County and Kane is a former Assistant District Attorney from the Scranton area.
Democrat Stephen Zappala of Allegheny County and Republicans Risa Vetri Ferman of Montgomery County and Dave Freed of Cumberland County are reportedly considering a run.
Politics
Western Pa. political consultant Bill Green told The Daily News that in the 30 years since the Attorney General position has been an elected office, the “A.G.” has jokingly been regarded as “aspiring governor.” Corbett is the first Attorney General elected governor.
No Democrat has held the job since the Commonwealth Attorneys Act of 1980 established it as an independent office headed by an elected Attorney General.
