Wide Open Spaces at Many Pa. Polling Places

Turnout was light throughout the Keystone State Tuesday as rain and possibly apathy kept Pennsylvanians away from the primary polls.

Voting turnout was anywhere from five to 40 percent in some Philadelphia wards, sources told NBC Philadelphia political reporter Steve Highsmith.

In the Lehigh Valley some polling places had fewer than 20 voters show up as of midday.

Rain could have been keeping voters away from the polls but also a general disinterest seemed to play a role.

There were also some reports of electioneering in some areas, according to the Committee of Seventy.

Some of the districts reporting possible problems were Districts 180, 181, 190 and 194 and the 59th ward/21st division in Germantown. The claims were being investigated.
