Berks HS Junior Gets Local School Board Nom

Voters give Amity Township 17-year-old nod for school board

Finally, a student politician who might be able to follow through on promises to cut homework and extend recess.

Connor Kurtz might not be old enough to vote himself but that didn’t stop him from winning a nom to be on the school board of the school he goes to.

The Daniel Boone High School junior won both the Democratic and Republican nominations for school board on Tuesday night and will appear on the ballot in November's general election.

"Amity Township has spoken," the 17-year-old told the Reading Eagle. "And they're looking for a new voice on the Daniel Boone School Board."

Kurtz told the paper that voters are looking for a β€œnew voice” on the school board. The self-described fiscal conservative says he would encourage frugality on what he views as a spend-happy board.

Kurtz bested three other candidates, all of whom ran on both tickets.
