Kennedy Baby Born in NJ

Ex-Rep. Kennedy heads to South Jersey home with new baby

Former Rhode Island U.S. Rep. Patrick Kennedy and his wife left the hospital for home Tuesday with the newest addition to the family -- two-day-old Owen, who has already been branded a Democrat.

Kennedy and Amy Petitgout left a Pomona, N.J., medical center Tuesday morning with Owen Patrick Kennedy, born on Sunday at 5:30 p.m., weighing 6 pounds, 15 ounces.

Patrick Kennedy, the son of the late Sen. Edward Kennedy of Massachusetts, married Petitgout in July. Petitgout is a middle school teacher from Brigantine, N.J., and has a 4-year-old daughter, Harper, from a previous marriage. Harper accompanied the family as well.

The Press of Atlantic City reported Owen slept through his first official press conference, while Kennedy made a few jokes.

“People asked me what the sex of the baby would be. I told them I don't know if it will be a boy or a girl but I know it'll be one thing, that's a Democrat,” he said. “Brigantine needs some more Democrats. We're doing our part for the local Democratic Party.”

Kennedy said he and Petitgout are healthy and doing well.

The Arc of Atlantic County, which serves people with Down syndrome, presented Owen with a one-piece outfit before his departure. It read, “Made Possible by The Arc of Atlantic County.”

Kennedy and Petitgout met at an Arc tribute dinner in 2010.
