Arrest of Philadelphia Police Officer Leads to Review of Hundreds of Cases

Prosecutors say the arrest of a former Philadelphia narcotics officer last month has forced the review of hundreds of convictions in which he was a key witness.

Prosecutors said Monday they would work with the Defender Association of Philadelphia to determine which cases could be affected by 19-year police veteran Christopher Hulmes' involvement.

First Assistant District Attorney Ed McCann says they're looking into hundreds of cases he was involved in.

Prosecutors say Hulmes lied in testimony and paperwork in 2011. He was arrested April 23 and charged with perjury, tampering with public records and related offenses.

Hulmes' attorney, Brian McMonagle, couldn't be reached by the newspaper for comment.
