Hip Hop Stars Show Love for Obama in Philly

Huge crowds take-over Broad Street

Hip hop stars Sean "Diddy" Combs, Mary J. Blige, Beyonce Knowles and Jay-Z urged thousands in North Philly Monday morning to get out and vote for Sen. Barack Obama on election day.

Standing on a stage in the middle of North Broad Street, the stars stressed the importance of voting on Tuesday.  There were no musical performances…only pleas to get to the polls.

“You must stand in line for change,” said Jay-Z.

The event called the Promote the Vote Block Party was a free rally organized between the music icons and the Obama-Biden campaign.  Police estimated over 4,000 people attended the rally, which closed Broad Street between Dauphin and Susquehanna for hours.

As expected, the stars were not afraid to take some shots at Obama’s competition.

John McCain desperately needs Philadelphia, but you can tell him you can not have Pennsylvania,” Jay-Z said.

With less than 24 hours until the polls open, Pennsylvania continues to be a highly contested state with supporters for both candidates fighting until the end.

John McCain appeared in Wallingford, Delaware County Sunday rallying supporters as he attempts to close the gap in Pennsylvania the last hours before the election.
