Happy Hour Could Be Expanding in Pa.

Pa. state House committee gives OK to easing happy hour limits

Pa. bars and restaurants can expand happy hours under a measure that won committee approval on Wednesday.

The proposal by State Rep. John Payne, R-Derry Twp., would allow establishments selling alcohol more flexibility in setting happy hours. The bill would let businesses set as many hours as they want each day, as long as the total doesn't exceed 14 hours per week.

Current law only permits two hours of happy hour per day, up to the 14-hour-per-week limit.

Supporters say the change could help businesses still feeling the pinch of the recession.

House Bill 148 was approved without opposition by the state House Liquor Control Committee. It now goes to the full House for a vote.
