Advocates Fight to Revive Gun Control Bill

Gun control advocates in Delaware are rallying to urge state lawmakers to approve a bill that stalled in the General Assembly last year.

The bill, which is being pushed by Attorney General Beau Biden, expands the ability of Delaware authorities to prohibit people with mental health issues from having guns.

The measure, which establishes a process to keep people declared to be a danger to themselves or others from having access to guns, was defeated in the state Senate last year after winning overwhelming passage in the state House.

Supporters are expected to try to revive and pass the bill next week when a new session of the General Assembly convenes.

The Delaware Coalition Against Gun Violence scheduled a news conference Thursday in Wilmington to urge passage of the bill.
