Gov. Christie to Visit Israel

Governor hopes his first "official" visit outside the U.S. will strengthen ties between New Jersey and Israel.

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and his wife will travel to Israel next spring. The trip will be his first official visit to a country outside the U.S. as governor.

The Republican announced the pending visit Monday while hosting Michael Oren, the Israeli ambassador to the United States, at the New Jersey Statehouse in Trenton.

Christie describes the trip as an important visit for the people of New Jersey and for him personally, saying it will strengthen ties between the state and Israel.

The trip likely will occur in April, but details are still being worked out by the New Jersey-Israel Commission.
