GOP Calling on Christie to Run – Really!

NJ governor is still turning down invitations to run in 2012

NJ Gov. Chris Christie’s phone is ringing off the hook.

It may have become more intense following a weekend GOP vote giving Herman Cain a decisive straw poll victory for the Republican Presidential nomination.

A Wall Street Journal report said Christie aides described as “relentless” the recent stream of calls urging the governor to change his mind and enter the 2012 presidential race.

Christie, a former federal prosecutor, has consistently turned down the requests.

There’s no doubt about his GOP clout, according to the latest list of party events and fundraisers on Christie’s calendar.

After a public plea from NJ Democrats to reveal his political travels to the citizens he serves, the state Republican Party released a list of out-of-state events, despite the governor’s insistence last week that it wasn’t necessary and he wouldn’t reveal some meetings.

Mother Jones Magazine recently reported on a trip Christie made to Colorado to speak to wealthy donors, that had not been publicly disclosed.

On Monday, Gov. Christie will attend several fundraisers in Missouri.

He will travel to California for events there on Tuesday and Wednesday.

A Tuesday speech at the Reagan library fueled new rumors about a possible change of heart and perhaps an 11th hour campaign announcement. Nancy Reagan invited Christie personally, according to The National Review. But, the Christie camp said no surprise announcement is planned.

On Thursday the governor will travel to Louisiana for an appearance with Gov. Bobby Jindal in Baton Rouge,to help raise money for the Republican Victory Fund. Jindal had attended a fundraiser for Christie in NJ just before his 2009 election victory.

By the way in that Florida GOP Straw Poll, Rick Perry finished in second place and Mitt Romney was third behind Atlanta businessman Herman Cain.
