Vince Fumo Set for Heart Surgery

A source tells NBC10 that the disgraced former Pa. senator has 95-percent blockage in one of his arteries

A major health scare for former Pennsylvania Senator Vince Fumo.

A source tells NBC10 that the disgraced former state senator is scheduled to have major heart surgery this week. Fumo, 69, has 95-percent blockage in one of his arteries. He did not have a heart attack, as we reported last week.

According to sources, one of the 69-year-old’s arteries was 90 percent blocked.

Sources said that Fumo's fiancée Carolyn Zinni, wanted him transferred to Temple University Hospital for treatment, but right now his surgery is scheduled to take place in Kentucky where Fumo is serving time in a federal prison.

In 2009, federal prosecutors convicted Fumo on 137 counts of mail and wire fraud. He was sentenced to 61 months. He is scheduled to be released Feb. 2, 2014.

Recently, Zinni started a blog petitioning to get permission to take him fresh vegetables and fruit. She apparently feared that he might have a heart attack, according to Philly.com.
