Former Pa. House Speaker Plots Post-Prison Future

Former Pennsylvania House Speaker John Perzel is looking forward to his future now that he's out of prison, but it won't be in Harrisburg.

The Philadelphia Republican told the PennLive.com website in a story published Saturday that he's landed a marketing job with a construction company.

Perzel, who served nearly two years behind bars on a corruption conviction before he was released Feb. 27, says he wishes his former legislative colleagues good luck but that he has nothing else to say to them.

Perzel pleaded guilty to conspiracy, conflict of interest and theft charges.

Prosecutors said he orchestrated an illegal scheme to spend millions of taxpayer dollars on developing massive voter databases and customized software that were designed to give Republican legislative candidates an electoral advantage.
