Ex-Trenton Mayor Wants His Conviction Dismissed

The former mayor of New Jersey's capital city has asked a federal judge to throw out his conviction on corruption charges and grant him a new trial.

The Times of Trenton reports that Tony Mack's lawyer, Mark Davis, made the appeal in a 23-page brief filed Friday.

Davis claims prosecutors presented misleading evidence that led to the former Trenton mayor's conviction in February on bribery, fraud and extortion charges.

A federal jury found Mack and his brother, Ralphiel, participated in a scheme to take money in exchange for helping get approvals to develop a downtown parking garage. The deal was fictitious and part of a government sting operation.

Mack fought to stay in office until he's sentenced in May, but a judge removed him from office late last month.
