Dems Murphy, Kane Are Big Spenders

High priced campaigns for Pa. Attorney General

Patrick Murphy and Kathleen Kane are spending heavily on their air war in the race for the Democratic nomination for attorney general.

Campaign finance reports filed Friday show both candidates spent more money than they took in during the five-week reporting period that ended Monday. Most of the money was spent on media buys.

Kane, a former Lackawanna County prosecutor who has relied mostly on her husband's wealth to finance her campaign, had $633,000 in the bank after spending $1.4 million.

Murphy, a former two-term congressman and former Army lawyer from Bucks County, had $415,000 on hand after $1.2 million in expenditures.

The winner of the April 24 primary will take on Cumberland County District Attorney David Freed, who is unopposed for the Republican nomination.
