Democratic Candidates for Governor to Debate

Democratic candidates for Pennsylvania governor are preparing for their first debate since the release of polls showing Tom Wolf as front-runner.

Six of the seven declared candidates are slated to participate in a two-hour debate Friday night at the Pennsylvania Progressive Summit in Harrisburg. Former state Auditor General Jack Wagner declined to participate, citing other commitments.

Two independent polls released Wednesday, following a monthlong TV advertising blitz by Wolf, suggested the nomination might be his to lose.

Connecticut-based Quinnipiac University's poll showed the York businessman beating GOP Gov. Tom Corbett 52 percent to 33 percent in a general election race -- a much larger gap than similar matchups with the other Democrats.

A Franklin & Marshall College survey said Wolf holds a strong lead over the other Democrats.
