Corbett Won't Pocket Pay Raise

Gov.-elect will forgo 2011 COLA increase

Tom Corbett says his cost-of-living pay raise will go to charity.

Corbett says automatic COLA pay hikes are hard to justify during hard times like these.

The Republican Gov.-elect was asked by reporters Tuesday about the raises for top executive officials, legislators and judges after a meeting with several hundred members of his transition team.

The cost-of-living increase will boost the statutory salary for governor by nearly $3,000. Even without pocketing the pay hike, Corbett's new salary will be more than a $29,000 a year boost from what he currently makes as Pennsylvania's Attorney General.

Corbett will be sworn into office on Jan. 18.
