Gov. Tom Corbett says the changes he wants to make to Pennsylvania's Medicaid program for the poor and disabled would save $125 million next year in next year's budget.
The Republican governor revealed the figure during his budget address to lawmakers Tuesday, but noted that he needs the federal government's approval.
Corbett, who's running for re-election, has proposed a “Healthy Pennsylvania” plan that, among other things, pares back Medicaid benefits for healthy working-age adults.
He's asking for federal approval of that change as part of a request to use federal Medicaid expansion dollars to buy private insurance plans for to hundreds of thousands of low-income adults, instead of using the money to expand the traditional Medicaid program.
Corbett says his administration can expand health insurance in the right way and do it better.
