Christie's AG Nominee Advances

Final vote could come on last day of the current legislative session

The Senate Judiciary Committee has unanimously approved Gov. Chris Christie's choice for New Jersey attorney general.

Jeff Chiesa's nomination will be forwarded to the full Senate. A final vote could come Monday, the last day of the legislative session.

Chiesa's confirmation hearing was smooth. The governor's chief counsel had support from Republicans and Democrats.

The Republican governor has repeatedly clashed with the Democrat-controlled Senate over nominations. Christie's pick for education commissioner has been stalled for a year, and it took a year for his first Supreme Court pick to be approved.

An ongoing stalemate over judicial nominees has forced the postponement of some Essex County trials.

Outgoing Attorney General Paula Dow has been nominated to the bench in Essex County, subject to confirmation.
