Christie Hits High Mark: Poll

NJ residents say GOP Gov. and state on the right track

New Jersey’s back-to-back positive poll results haven’t been seen in more than a decade, according to the pollsters.

And the poll by Fairleigh Dickinson University shows a new high of 56 percent of respondents approving of the way Gov. Chris Christie is handling his job. Thirty-three percent disapprove.

This is the second straight poll that finds New Jersey residents believe the state is heading in the right direction.

Fifty percent of those responding to the latest PublicMind Poll agree things in New Jersey are ”moving in the right direction.” Forty-one percent say the state is on the wrong track.

Fairleigh Dickinson says it's the first time in 11 years of polling that New Jerseyans have agreed in back-to-back surveys that the state is heading in the right direction. The last survey was in March.

“This spring has not been marred by the same depth of bad feeling about funding schools as in past years,” said Peter Woolley, director of the poll. “Typically, spring means fights over school budgets followed by even more fights over the state’s next budget.”

The telephone poll of 797 voters April 30 through May 6 had a margin of error of plus or minus 3.5 percentage points.
